Does My Motherboard Have Integrated Graphics?

|

It depends on your motherboard. Some motherboards have integrated graphics while others do not.

You can typically find out if your motherboard has integrated graphics by checking the manufacturer’s website or by looking at the motherboard’s specifications.

How To Check If My Motherboard Has Integrated Graphics?

The best way to check is to open up your computer and look at the motherboard.

There should be a graphics chip located on the motherboard and if there are any connectors coming from it then you have integrated graphics.

If you can’t see the graphics chip or there are no connectors coming from it then you don’t have integrated graphics.

If you’re not comfortable opening up your computer you can also check your BIOS settings.

From the BIOS main screen press the “Tab” key to view all of the options. Scroll down until you see “Integrated Graphics”.

If this setting is enabled (it will be disabled by default) then you have integrated graphics. If it’s disabled then you don’t have integrated graphics.

You can also check the manufacturer’s website for your specific motherboard model.

They will typically have a list of features for each motherboard model and if integrated graphics is included it will be listed there.

What Motherboards Have Onboard Graphics?

All the major motherboard brands offer onboard graphics these days. AMD offers their Radeon and Intel offers their HD Graphics.

Other lesser-known brands such as MSI ASUS and Gigabyte also offer decent onboard graphics solutions.

Onboard graphics have come a long way in recent years and can now handle most modern games at resolutions up to 1080p.

If you’re looking to do any serious gaming however you’ll still need a dedicated graphics card.

But for more casual use an onboard GPU will suffice.

There are a few things to consider when purchasing a motherboard with integrated graphics.

Firstly make sure that the processor you’re planning on using is compatible with the motherboard’s socket type.

Secondly take a look at the motherboard’s expansion slots.

If you’re planning on adding a dedicated graphics card in the future you’ll need to make sure there are enough slots available.

Lastly check the onboard graphics chip’s specifications.

Some chips are better than others so it’s worth doing some research to see which one is right for you.

Can Motherboards Have Built In Graphics?

Yes some motherboards have built-in graphics capabilities.

This is typically accomplished through the use of an integrated graphics processing unit (GPU).

However not all motherboards have this feature and it is often disabled by default.

Whether or not a motherboard has built-in graphics capability depends on the motherboard manufacturers and model specifications.

For example the MSI Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 chip.

In order to enable the integrated graphics you would need to install a processor that has an on-die GPU such as an Intel Core i7-6700K.

You would then need to go into the BIOS settings and enable Integrated Graphics Channel (IGFX). Not all channels are open to the public.
