A new motherboard that uses the LGA1151 socket will be able to use both LGA1150 and LGA1151 processors.
Can I Use A 8th Gen CPU In A 6th Gen Motherboard?
No you cannot use an 8th gen CPU in a 6th gen motherboard. The two are not compatible.
8th gen CPUs require a 300-series chipset while 6th gen CPUs only work with 100-series or 200-series chipsets.
Likewise 8th gen CPUs are not backward compatible with older motherboards.
So if you want to upgrade to an 8th gen CPU you’ll also need to upgrade your motherboard and possibly other components as well.
